Educational Outreach

Music helps children develop cognitive skills, language, emotional intelligence, self-expression and social inclusion, particularly for neurodivergent children. Music education is a mandatory part of the national curriculum in our schools; but access varies.

As a charity, we aim to perform concerts with top class professionals at a price within the reach of the many – which we manage to do by subsidizing the costs of the performances through the generosity of sponsors and donations of any amount. We also aim to complement the music education provided in schools by providing sessions with a range of musical instruments – which are greeted with enthusiasm!

Highlights from the June 2025 visit to All Saints Church of England Infants School, Tilford

All pupils enjoyed special workshops for each year group led by two professional musicians from the Tilford Bach Festival: Rachel Brown and Adrian Butterfield. Both teach at the Royal College of Music and perform internationally. The workshops were entitled “B for Bach”, and the children learnt to play a “Musette” written by Bach. During the workshop, Rachel and Adrian performed for the children, who were given the opportunity to play a range of percussion instruments: in descending order of size, bass recorders (which when held by Year 2 children standing up, nearly touched the floor…), tenor, treble, and descant recorders, sopraninos and the tiny garkleinflötlein. But also fun instruments such as boomwhackers and handbells!

Here are some photos from the school and also the concert that followed at All Saints Church afterwards.
